I certainly like the improvements Groth has made over the last 9 or 10 months.

You just get a sense if Sam can hold out until the clay season she may be able to get some wins on a surface which, historically, shes been at her most confident.Zafarhttp://tennisisserved.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8948801468516043822.post-45051277567434456442011-03-16T02:47:56.526+00:002011-03-16T02:47:56.526+00:00@Earlier discussion - Bepa did beat Kim twice last...@Earlier discussion - Bepa did beat Kim twice last year, once at Wimbeldon and also at one of the major North American tournaments leading up to the USO. I saw the match at Wimbeldon, where she was certainly helped by a mild bout of Petrovitis.

Very strongly get the feeling this is the beginning of the end of Stosur's top ten stint. She's only had one win over a top 20 player this year (Wickmayer in Sydney); and apart from her run to the US quarter finals, she hasn't won three matches in a row since Eastbourne. Throw in the fact that the bulk of her ranking points were acquired between Indian Wells and Wimbeldon last year, and she's in trouble

Wouldn't be surprised if she was the second ranked Aussie in six months time.Tbar0660noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8948801468516043822.post-21694962671196913212011-03-15T19:57:52.363+00:002011-03-15T19:57:52.363+00:00You're absolutely right of course, getting thr...You're absolutely right of course, getting through at this point in their comeback is what counts.

But Stosur's performance in particular was shocking. Worryingly so. Hope she gets on top of whatevers bothering her before the FO. If she can win *any* Slam its that one.

I don't like the Dinara service motion either - I can only assume its supposed to make the serve more repeatable and reduce strain on her back. Time will tell I suppose.Zafarhttp://tennisisserved.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8948801468516043822.post-77705934408533801342011-03-15T16:36:01.746+00:002011-03-15T16:36:01.746+00:00I guess getting through to the next round, though,...I guess getting through to the next round, though, when you're coming from where they are is always a good thing: No matter how it looks!

But speaking of "looks": That Safina serving motion is horrible! Why has that Jay Berger wind-up become sort of fashionable now?Vannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8948801468516043822.post-77510009489634565792011-03-12T18:28:23.547+00:002011-03-12T18:28:23.547+00:00Fed: There seems to be a brouhaha over the #2 rank...Fed: There seems to be a brouhaha over the #2 ranking stoked in no small way by the media. Anyone that thinks either of Nole or Fed are in some senses "above it" all is delusional. You're right that it will aid his quest for the #2 (and ultimately #1) ranking. I just can't see that it'd be anywhere near as seismic a result as it would be for Dolgo or Milos to announce themselves the way Djoko did at Miami in 2007.

I like your optimism in Vera: I agree that she's squandered a lot of time. That said she's still only in her mid-20s - not the latest of "late bloomers". Beating Kim might still be a step too far but she seems, at last, to be in the right place to attempt it. She might even win a Slam w/o having to go thru her..

You're right about Delpo - its WAY too early to expect him to go all the way - can definitely see it happening some time this year though.

I'm not a fan of chaos either, but I do think theres room for a little shift at the top. Sod could and should definitely add to his Masters title hall - I also think that the times ripe for a newcomer. Shame about Petra, but shes done very well already this year beating Kim . I'd like to see something similar from Dolgo/MilosZafarhttp://tennisisserved.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8948801468516043822.post-81042356691825752702011-03-11T23:59:27.025+00:002011-03-11T23:59:27.025+00:00Well, let's see. I think it would help Fed a ...Well, let's see. I think it would help Fed a lot to win or go deep into this tournament and help his legacy as a hardcourt player. Besides he seems to be fixated on points rather than titles. He put it out there-his quest for no 1.
I like Vera but I think she squandered a lot of her talent when she wasn't mentally together in what has been called the peak years. But if you saw her reaction when she beat Woz at Doha then you know she knew that the perseverance and mental focus paid off. If she comes into IW that way, I think she could make. She may be ready to beat Clijsters. Woz better do something. She won her first big tournaments at Toronto, Tokyo and Beijing last year. Before that were small tourneys. Yet last year she did not do well in the majors. She needs the confidence that a win at one of the big women's events (3 this spring-IW, Miami,Madrid) would bring her to go into the majors. I hope Delpo goes deep but I don't think he will win. He has had difficulty with what the master tournaments bring-all the top players. Kvitova already lost. It is really difficult to find consistent new players these days. At one time they are winning a tournament and another out the first round. That is what I what to find in the women's game. Consistency. Two or three players that are dominating. We kind of have that with Woz, Kim and Vera. We will have to see if it continues in big tournaments and at majors. IW is the place for it to start happening. I don't mind an upset once in awhile but I don't like chaos. Soderling needs to win another masters for people to really put him in the top 5 and Sveta-I don't know what is wrong with her head. I probably went off point but this is the postSunny ninenoreply@blogger.com
