Hee. In spite of evrythi...@twitter-94278343:disqus
Hee. In spite of evrything I said to TBar, can totally relate to what you mean. Sport ain't complete without someone to root against.Zafarhttp://tennisisserved.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8948801468516043822.post-78929465554382077062011-06-28T13:25:43.740+01:002011-06-28T13:25:43.740+01:00@6b88a193c6536dd9e521625bb6128845:disqus "......@6b88a193c6536dd9e521625bb6128845:disqus "...finding it increasingly difficult to add to the contempt she seems to engender without feeling slightly sorry for her...disliking someone for being pretty, likeable and well-rounded might seem ironic and cool but it's starting to grate a little"

Couldn't agree more. I started to feel the same when she went out in RG I think, and ppl were poking fun at guessing the first thing she'd say on twitter about it. Really?!?

Like you said, having a a bunch of players to root against is perfectly fine - indeed a long running tradition of sport.

At a certain point, though all that schadenfreude (some of it quite reckless) needs to be wound down. As with any other form of light entertainment, there’s only so much of it you can take before you begin to feel queasy.

If she elicits such a toxic chemical reaction in you, ignore her, stop following her on Twitter. It’s really not that hard.

And its not as if what she DOES do well is worthy of such derision - I still think shes the best "defender" in the sport by far. That's not pejorative term - it shouldn't be given the list of great defenders in the sport you mention. It may even win her a Slam.

That doesn't mean I'm ready to root for her just yet :)Zafarhttp://tennisisserved.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8948801468516043822.post-44564207930649601172011-06-28T11:00:19.643+01:002011-06-28T11:00:19.643+01:00I'm still kind of on the anti-Woz bandwagon as...I'm still kind of on the anti-Woz bandwagon as well, and I do think that at least half the fun of tennis is having a small number of "enemies" to cheer against. But as I read more of what is written online, and realise how big the anti-Woz bandwagon is, I'm finding it increasingly difficult to add to the contempt she seems to engender without feeling slightly sorry for her. Particularly when most of the contempt seems at least a little unfair - many good players have relied on great defensive play (ASV, JJ, Hewitt), and, well, disliking someone for being pretty, likeable and well-rounded might seem ironic and cool but it's starting to grate a little, at least for me.

Anyways, I have Woz written down in my diary as 2011 USO Champ where I will temporarily retract any negative feelings towards her. If she *does* win this tournament, these negative feelings will be hastily reinstated.

This tournament has been unbelieveable. I'm almost worried that the final week can only be an anticlimax. Although the QF pool is interesting enough for me to hope this won't be the case. Great opportunity for Masha and Kvitova.Tbar0660noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8948801468516043822.post-16878809175032985032011-06-28T06:04:20.999+01:002011-06-28T06:04:20.999+01:00Arrggg I don't want Caro to improve or change ...Arrggg I don't want Caro to improve or change gamestyle, I'll have to like her then.
