I made the point that its really not sensible to compare the two in light of competition alone i.e. that JMac didn't have to contend with two of the best ever players. I totally forgot he didn't even have to win the AO.
Case closed. Totally.

2. I really don't understand it when people act like the tweeners just been patented in the last year or so. The point about the tweener-lob is that its even harder than your basic tweener, but that EVEN THAT has been hit before. Completely agree we need more players like Fabrice. Don't hold your breath :(Zafarhttp://tennisisserved.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8948801468516043822.post-51174018699157474082011-05-10T19:03:11.196+01:002011-05-10T19:03:11.196+01:001. If you consider start-of-season winning streaks which included the AO, from 1987 onwards, then Novak's is the longest, followed by Sampras (17), Federer (16), Agassi (15) and Edberg (15). I think those names and those numbers put Novak's streak in context.

2. I loved reliving Santoro's tweener. You're right, he didn't get the street parades that Rafa and Roger get. I remember that tournament very well. It was Newport 2008. I don't know whether you watched it. Santoro won it and he was incredibly happy. He thanked the public with his usual playful elegance and practically collapsed on a chair. A girl came to him with a microphone and asked him how he felt. He opened his eyes very slowly, looking directly at the camera, smiled beatifically and, after a slight pause, answered: "...Young...". We need more players like Santoro, with his fabulous shots, his good looks, his panache...Yolitanoreply@blogger.com
