Likewise, you don't realize that you've just been trash talked to by Roger Federer. Take this comment from his interview yesterday...

“We’ve had some good matches over the years, and he’s obviously waiting for a breakthrough where he can win this title. But he’s obviously going through me and in the past he hasn’t been able to get it done.”

Does that seem like the same kind of subtle jabbing that Roger gave to Andy at the AO 2010? I agree about the Djoker. He needs to step up big time if he wants to stop Roger from getting to his 7th straight.zbrainnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8948801468516043822.post-34672514984280742592010-09-18T13:51:36.585+01:002010-09-18T13:51:36.585+01:00Subtle?Subtle?Yolitanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8948801468516043822.post-65606570153943828352010-09-18T13:51:36.283+01:002010-09-18T13:51:36.283+01:00Hi zbrain

They seem to have learnt not to take the bait but I'm sure they read all the signals.

As for Djoko he's actually playing the best tennis I've seen from him in a long time, which should make for a good match though with Fed in this form and their previous meetings here these past three years you really have to wonder....TopSpinhttp://tennisisserved.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8948801468516043822.post-88908009646582603842010-09-18T13:51:35.557+01:002010-09-18T13:51:35.557+01:00No wonder Soderling excells indoors, where nature ...No wonder Soderling excells indoors, where nature is excluded.

Remember how he suffers in the heat of the AO and Miami, getting all read in face like a cooked lobster. His high toss wobbles in the wind at the USO, dwindling his number of aces and first serve percentage. Not having the nimblest of legs also doesn't help adjusting to the windswept ball, thus so many unforced errors and missed returns.

Since Soderling couldn't get those free points from aces and service winners, Federer scraped a break per set, kept his own serve by pushing his sore back to the limit (he desperately jumped into each serve and almost grunted) and won comfortably.

Djokovic might put him through more trouble and if not actually beat him, then at least tire and tenderize him for the final.bibinoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8948801468516043822.post-11665118040472393352010-09-18T13:51:34.477+01:002010-09-18T13:51:34.477+01:00Hmmm not sure heat was the problem that night, tho...Hmmm not sure heat was the problem that night, though the wind certainly was and initially I thought they both adjusted well - though maybe the fact that Sod was only able to serve 2 aces shows that Fed had the edge in that respect as well.

Way I saw it, it was less about the conditions and more about Fed raising his level against arguably the biggest threat in his half of the draw.

Can he keep it up?

If not Djoko might be in with a chance. I can certainly see him getting a set - apart from that match against Troicki he's been getting through his matches comfortably and under the radar - just how he likes it.TopSpinhttp://tennisisserved.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8948801468516043822.post-30172995721086250432010-09-18T13:51:34.148+01:002010-09-18T13:51:34.148+01:00Ah Topspin, a little more credit to my boy, s'...Ah Topspin, a little more credit to my boy, s'il vous plait.

There are some days when you play the way you do and can beat basically everyone on tour. Soderling had one of those days at Roland Garros, no? Federer had one of those days too - served like there was no wind, got his racket on every serve Soderling was banging down. I fail to see what Sod could've done more? Especially given the conditions. For once, I'm in agreement with Bodo on this.

Re above comment made by Fed: when do we get to the part where what he said was a) untrue or b) not an obvious statement of fact?Julie =)http://twitter.com/dootsieznoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8948801468516043822.post-1270174250218781652010-09-18T13:51:33.829+01:002010-09-18T13:51:33.829+01:00Strange - I thought I nailed it when I said that t...Strange - I thought I nailed it when I said that the best-ever broke the laws of physics - or that nothing Sod could have done would have substantially altered the result. No pleasing some. :P

You're quite right. Fed had one of those days and no force on earth was going to stop him. Though what kind of a Sod fan would I be if I didn't diagnose his failings and/or simply expect more. It may not have changed the outcome, but he might have got a set (or more) out of it and would perhaps feel more confident the next time they met.

When do we get to the part where what Fed said was untrue/not obviously factual?

We don't.

When do get to the part where people stop making mountains out of molehills, or either he, Muzz or Djoko stop doing making those molehills?

Never.TopSpinhttp://tennisisserved.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.com
