With Murray playing up to his talent level, that's just one more person out there making it competitive, which is a good thing, besides just one person dominating.

And TopSpin, I agree with you: I definitely think Federer's capable of at least one Slam a year.Tennis Talk, Anyone?https://www.blogger.com/profile/15851928994754867832noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8948801468516043822.post-30256796247434306912008-11-23T19:48:00.000+00:002008-11-23T19:48:00.000+00:00Well I think Fed's problems are mental more than a...Well I think Fed's problems are mental more than anything, especially against Nadal. His forehand has gone crazy! It's like a mathematical genius making mistakes in elementary multiplication...

As for the Golden Age, then yes, it is somewhat reminiscent of trios and quartets like:

1) Borg/Connors/Mac/Lendl (before my time)
2) Lendl/Becker/Edberg/Wilander (kind of when I started to get into tennis)
3) Sampras/Agassi/Courier (the death of serve and volley)

I would say that eras 1) and 2) had ALL the top 10 vying for all 4 Slams. Whereas in 3), clay was dominated by Spaniards and South Americans who were oblivious from the rest of the Tour! Cynical I know, but hey...! :P2Handerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05694468226012362282noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8948801468516043822.post-24122012917397270642008-11-23T18:27:00.000+00:002008-11-23T18:27:00.000+00:00Hey 2Hander...While the rest of the tour has devel...Hey 2Hander...

While the rest of the tour has developed strongly I sort of think Federer's taken a couple of steps back.

It may be temporary if its due to health problems and we may see him resurface strongly next year; the other possibility of course is that the tour continues to strengthen and Federer fails to keep up.

I sort of feel he's capable at the very least, of one Slam a year on average.

But as you observe the tour is only going to get stronger, and it may at times feel like an uphill struggle.

But enough of that, how great is this for the fans! Some have even gone as far as to say that with the top four now lined up as they are, we are back to a kind of Golden Age. It is after all comparatively rare to have such strong players at the very top.Zafarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11909444215193865334noreply@blogger.com
